Start a Markdown draft from your PDF
Bring a report, article or set of notes into a Markdown workflow. The tool reads selectable words, joins nearby lines into paragraphs, recognizes simple list markers and can suggest headings from text size. Review the Markdown preview before saving the .md file.
Choose page numbers and one-column or two-column reading order. Optional header/footer removal looks for identical text near page edges across at least three selected pages. Keep it off when those lines matter. Headings and paragraphs are suggestions, so compare with the original.
This creates a text draft, not a copy of the page design. Pictures, tables, equations, links and font styling are not reconstructed as Markdown elements. Use Extract Images from PDF for pictures and PDF to CSV for table data you can review. Correct complex structure in your Markdown editor.
Source-page comments keep the PDF page references. Markdown punctuation in extracted words is escaped to avoid accidental formatting. Use Markdown to PDF to preview the notes and print a new PDF. Its layout will differ from the original.

Frequently asked questions
Is this real Markdown or just renamed text?
The output uses Markdown headings, simple lists, paragraphs and source-page comments. Source punctuation is escaped. Headings are inferred from text size; disable the heading option if it produces unsuitable suggestions.
Are pictures, tables and code blocks preserved?
No. Their text may be extracted, but those structures are not rebuilt. Use PDF to CSV for table columns and Extract Images from PDF for pictures, then add the needed parts to your Markdown manually.
What if my PDF has two columns?
Choose Two columns for a page divided at its centre, then check that the left column comes before the right. Mixed layouts, text boxes and tables can still need editing. Select pages with the same layout for each run.
Can I convert scanned pages?
Use OCR PDF first, then continue here with its searchable copy. Pages without selectable text are marked in a mixed-document export. A completely scanned selection needs OCR before a download can be created. Check recognized names and numbers.
Why did a header disappear or lines join incorrectly?
Header removal is optional and looks for repeated text near page edges. Paragraphs are inferred from line spacing. Turn off header removal, choose a different reading order or correct the downloaded Markdown for unusual layouts.
Can I convert the Markdown back to PDF?
Yes. The continuation button passes the .md file to Markdown to PDF without uploading it. Review the preview, attach any pictures you add and use Save as PDF. The original PDF design is not restored.
How large can the Markdown be?
Exports are limited to 200 KB so they can open in Markdown to PDF. Select fewer pages for a long or very dense document.
Are my documents uploaded?
No. Reading, conversion and previews run in your browser. Document contents are not sent to a conversion service. No account is required.
