Make a document's status clear on every page you choose
A text or image watermark helps readers recognize a draft, review copy or internal document before they reuse it. Add your own label or a PNG, JPEG or WebP logo, choose the opacity, and inspect its angle and size in the page preview. Drag one mark to position it, or choose a repeating pattern and drag its offset on all pages or on the page numbers you specify.
A watermark labels the document without rewriting its original text. Existing selectable page text stays selectable. A watermark you add here can be removed later with Remove Watermark while it remains separate. If it covers a form field, that field can no longer be interactive in the saved copy.
Enter DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, SAMPLE or a short custom message, or choose an image from your device. PNG transparency is preserved. Use lower opacity to keep body text readable and review both portrait and landscape pages. Watermarks are visual labels: they do not encrypt the document, prevent copying, establish ownership, or restrict who can read it. Your original stays unchanged when you download the marked copy.

How do I add a watermark to a PDF for free?
Open your PDF, enter watermark text or choose an image, check the preview and choose Add watermark. Download the marked copy directly from your browser. There is no account, upload, or installation step.
Can I add a DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL watermark to selected pages?
Yes. Enter the text or choose an image, then specify page numbers or ranges such as 1, 3-5. Leave the Pages box blank for all pages. Page numbers refer to positions in the file, starting at 1, rather than printed page labels.
How do I change PDF watermark opacity and rotation?
Use the Opacity and Angle controls and check the preview. Lower opacity keeps more text readable. Drag a single watermark or use the position controls; for a repeating mark, adjust its offset and spacing.
Can I remove this watermark later?
Yes, while the saved AdaPDF watermark remains separate from the page. Open the output in Remove Watermark, select it, and save another copy. A scan or another app can merge it into the page, where it cannot be removed here.
Will watermarking make my original text unselectable?
Existing selectable page text stays selectable. A watermark is a visible label; it does not prevent readers from copying or sharing the PDF.
Can I add an image or logo watermark?
Yes. Choose Image or logo and select a PNG, JPEG, or WebP image up to 10 MB. Place it once or repeat it, then adjust the transparency, size, angle, and target pages.
